Does Sachin Tendulkar's bat fit Marylebone Cricket Club regulations?

Does Sachin Tendulkar's bat fit Marylebone Cricket Club regulations?

According to cricket-supply guru, Harry Solomons, who owns Kingsgrove Sports Centre, which once employed the Waugh brothers, Sachin's bats look wide, but they are regulation width. It's the thick edges that make it look bigger.

The MCC's Laws of Cricket state: (a) The overall length of the bat, when the lower portion of the handle is inserted, shall not be more than 38in/96.5cm; (b) The width of the bat shall not exceed 4.25in/10.8cm at its widest part and (c) Permitted coverings, repair material and toe guards, not exceeding their specified thicknesses, may be additional to the dimensions above.

The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Solomon as saying: "I was having lunch two days ago with the guy who makes his bat. His bats are English willow, with a thick profile, massive edges which he likes, and he also likes his bats to be heavily bowed."

This refers to the curvature of the face of the bat. They are also heavy, a result of having to share a full-sized bat with his brother when he was a kid.

"When he was with [previous bat sponsor] MRF his bats were close to three pounds," Solomons said.

To put that in context, the bat used by 193cm West Indies great Clive Lloyd - who was renowned for using a gigantic heavy bat - weighed 3 pounds, 4 ounces. Tendulkar is 165cm.

"Now he's gone a little bit lighter. But he still likes a big, thick, heavy bat, much heavier than, say, Ponting's bat." The bat Tendulkar uses now is 2lb 12oz.

It's not easy getting the facts about Tendulkar's bats because just about everyone claims they are the great man's official supplier.

"A lot of manufacturers give him handmade bats because it looks good for them to say they made a bat for Tendulkar," Solomons said. "He gets inundated - and then gives them away to poor kids."

For the record, Tendulkar signed a deal with Adidas last year.

The SG factory in India makes his bats. The bats are available in Australia, known as the Sachin Tendulkar Master Blaster Elite and retail for about 650 dollars.

SAD NEWS - MWC[MCC] Tragedy about a cricket player playing in Detroit Cricket League

OUR GRIEF AND CONDOLENCES - CRICKET MERCHANT LLC

From: Vijay Vakulabharanam
Let me put the whole incident in sequential manner.

After 12 overs, the Captain of the fielding side informed that Muthu is dehydrated and wants to get some water. I said OK and waited for him to return
after the short break. But he took a minute extra which forced me to continue with the game since we were running behind schedule. I informed the same thing to the bowler that he can't enter in to the field in between the over to which bowler agreed and we resumed the play. Immediately after one or two balls Muthu wanted to return to the field, but I said after the over. As per the rules of the game we need to have a drinks break after every 14 overs. But I called
drinks break after 13 overs since on the last delivery of the over a wicket fell and my intention was to make some time in the change of batsmen.

After the stipulated 10 mins drinks break, I asked the teams to get on to the field. At that time one of the player from the fielding team informed me that
Muthu was having chest pain extending to left arm and also nausea sensation and another player will be taking him to hospital. I advised instead of taking him
to hospital call 911 which will give him immediate medical attention which may not be possible when you take Muthu to hospital. In mean time Muthu informed
that he is feeling better and one of his teammate gave him Aspirin 80mg (kids dose), 3 pills and also advised him to eat a banana. He ate the banana and the
pills. After taking confirmation from him that he is OK, we resume the play advising him to sit on bench.

As the 14th over progressed Muthu was walking from bench to car, talking on the phone etc. Some of his team mates were asking him if he was OK and he was
saying, he is OK. At the end of the 14th over when we were switching sides Muthu suddenly shouted for help and fell down on the ground.

Immediately, I called 911 and every player rushed to him to see what happened. He was on the ground breathing heavily and lying on the ground. Every body was in panic situation and did not know what to do. There were couple of medically trained persons in the form of physical therapist, they tried call out his name
and tried to make him bring into conscious and few talking to 911 giving directions of the ground ( you know how the ground does not a house address, it
has only cross streets and players go there based on exp). Mean time Muthu was unable to breathe freely and there were large intervals between his exhale and inhale cycles, which we could notice that there was no movements of stomach area. He was also sticking his tongue out. Everybody was talking about CPR but nobody could remember the procedure in that panic state, even the trained physical therapists. (So basically no CPR provided to Muthu). So may be after a
minute Muthu stopped breathing and stuck his tongue just out and everybody could realize that he stopped breathing.

The ambulance arrived within 5 mins from the time we made a call. The para medic staff arrived and tried to stroke his heart and they found no response. They
shifter him to the ambulance and not sure what they did inside for about 15 mins as no one was allowed inside. Finally they said they could not revive his
breathe so shifting to hospital and we asked to follow the ambulance to the close by hospital Mclaren Hospital in Flint.

All the players were dumb stuck, agreed to call of the game and proceed to hospital.

At the hospital we were kept waiting for more than an hour without any update (as per law only the close family members would be informed by the hospital
staff). In mean time his wife was informed about the situation and she was driven to the hospital by Muthu's friend. Later he was pronounced dead due to
heat stroke resulting in cardiac arrest.

***********

Later when players were discussing at the hospital about the entire incident, found that he was boozing on Friday night, did not drink much but had 3 or 4
beers, skipped his breakfast. He was also on medication for high Blood Pressure, had a family history of diabetes (could on the border himself though not diagnosed as he was a bulky personality) . He also bowled 2 overs before he complained of pain and dehydration.

In my observation- - Never booze on the night before the game because the it can accelerate your dehydration (in this kind of weather). Do not skip your meals, keep yourself fully hydrated. Never hesitate to call 911 even for a small cause (even in regular scenarios). I know it is hard to remember the CPR procedure but would recommend every one to be aware how it should be performed on others as
well as on self. Do not think because of your age nothing serious would happen to you, as Muthu was only 35 yrs. Anything can happen to anyone at anytime and at any age.

You can add your views on the incident and create more awareness among the
players.

Abhijit Joshi - Painswick CC Gloucestershire, UK

USA Cricket’s Under-19 player Abhijit Chidambar Joshi, recently signed with the United Kingdom’s Painswick Cricket Club in the Gloucestershire and has already established himself as the club’s top scorer. Joshi, who will turn 18 this October, is a right-handed batsman and right-arm off-break bowler. He scored a massive 147 runs (18x4s, 7x6s) against Gloucester Harlequins last Wednesday, June 16. Painswick went on to win the match by 77 runs.

The Bangalore, India-born USA batsman is the son of Chidambar Joshi, Youth Cricket Coordinator of the Central East region of USA Cricket.
An All-America cricketer, Joshi has represented the USA at the Under-15 and Under-19 levels. Earlier this year he was part of the USA’s Under-19 World Cup squad in New Zealand. According to Painswick’s skipper Wayne Neville, commenting soon after Joshi signed with the club, "I read about him on a website where he said he was keen to play as much cricket as possible, so we contributed to his air fare to bring him over. He's certainly got pedigree, having played for the USA in the Under-19 World Cup, so it will be interesting to see how he goes. Apparently he's a useful spin bowler as well as an opening batsman. It could be an exciting signing."
And exciting it has been. In nine innings so for Painswick, Abhijit Joshi has scored 440 runs at an average of 48.89, recording 24.93% of his teams total run tally, an excellent contribution indeed. The youngster has two half-centuries and a couple of innings where he fell just shy of a 50 or another century.

In Joshi’s top five innings for Painswick Cricket Club, he has recorded scores of 147 (18x4s, 7x6s) vs. Gloucester Harlequins CC Midweek XI, 85 (6x4s, 1x6) vs. Frocester – Friendly XI, 55 vs. Old Down CC’s Under-17, 49 (7x4s) vs. Walls Crescent CC Midweek XI, and 48 vs. Redmarley CC – 1st XI. With a batting strike rate of over 200% Joshi also ranks in Painswick’s bowling line-up at number eight, with figures of 26.1-2-131-9 at an average of 14.56 per and best bowling figures of 3 for 9.
No stranger to big innings, Joshi struck 122 in an inning last July against Naper United in the Central East Region of USA Cricket, and has match figures of 5 for 7 at the Under-15 level bowling for the Central East Region vs. New York Region in a USA Cricket inter-regional national tournament.
The aspiring business engineering student and cricketer has been accepted at Birmingham University in the United Kingdom; however, a decision has not yet been made regarding whether he will attend college in the USA or the UK.
The Waubonsie Valley High School, Illinois graduate admires Test cricket star Rahul Dravid, and states, "Family is very important to me. They are the ones that will be with me for the rest of my life. I can do anything for them."
The senior Joshi, said his son was enjoying cricket in a caring and nurturing environment in the UK, adding “There is a lot of competition there (UK) too, but a very healthy one. Abhijit says he is learning a lot from all of his teammates, coach and hosts both about the culture, people, pitches and the game.”
The experience being gained in the UK by the young cricketer should prove invaluable because he has been playing on all-turf wickets, many of them first-class pitches. Abhijit’s dad said “Now that he has played on turf wickets in the UK, West Indies, Bermuda, India, New Zealand, and Canada, as well as turf, Astroturf and matting in the USA, I am sure it is enriching his experience as a cricketer and a human being. I hope that he gets his due chance to serve US cricket under a similar nurturing and caring atmosphere.”
